What’s the best stadium to play in? Which one is the worst? How do players feel about the automated ball-strike system? meaning of ssob This year’s All-Stars had plenty to share. We anonymously surveyed 20 of the league’s top players during All-Star Weekend on these intriguing topics. Here’s a glimpse into their thoughts:

Automated Ball-Strike System: For or Against?

Winner: For

But let’s not call it “robo-umps.” The Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) technology has been trialed in the minors to challenge specific ball and strike calls, and it was also implemented in this year’s All-Star Game. So, what about regular season games?

“I don’t want full ABS. My time rehabbing and pitching in Triple-A has given me experience with it. I see value in the technology, but I don’t want to eliminate the human aspect of the game. I believe umpires should remain part of it.” — NL All-Star pitcher

“I support a challenge system. Umpires have the toughest job, trying to determine if a pitch is coming in at 100 mph on the corners. They have my sympathy. But having the option for teams to request a review if there’s a missed call isn’t a bad idea.” — AL pitcher

“I’m not in favor of eliminating umpires entirely, but having some checks and balances would be great.” — AL All-Star pitcher
